Surface properties Other than hard surfaces, textiles have an inner surface that can be up to 100 times larger than the visual surface. Through the choice and combination of suitable textile chemicals and application methods the surface can be designed in many ways. High or low surface tension can generate hydrophilic or hydrophobic effects. Soft textiles can be made if the fiber-fiber friction is reduced while hard textiles require high friction of cross linking between fibre segments. The design of the chemical product as well as the application method is essential for achieving the desired surface effects.
